Helping Build an Experimental RV-6

Sacramento, CA

Mar 16, 2026

Hands-on work on an experimental RV-6 build, aimed at understanding aircraft systems beyond the cockpit.

The build made aircraft feel less like a finished tool and more like a chain of choices. Seeing the structure underneath made the cockpit make more sense.

Flying teaches one side of the aircraft; building shows why the checklist items and maintenance habits matter.

I helped on the experimental build while learning how airframe, hardware, and system decisions show up in maintenance and operation.

It gave me a builder's view of aviation instead of leaving aircraft knowledge at the user level.

It tied hands-on construction details to trust and safety in the cockpit.

Highlights

  • Contributed to an experimental RV-6 aircraft build.
  • Learned aircraft systems from the structure outward.
  • Connected hands-on fabrication with pilot decision-making.
